A Japan is a island country that is made up of 6,852 islands. (From Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Geographical Survey Institute, 1987) A 3/4 of land in japan is mountain. The most famous mountain is Mt.Fuji.

History (until end of Edo shogunate)

The ancient Japanese people come from a continent of Asia. In 1185, the Kamakura shogunate, first shougunate in history in Japan, begane. The Minamotono Yorimoto (1147-1199) was first shogun in Kamakura shogunate. In 1272 and 1274, the chinese army come attack to Hakata, but Japanese army won in Japanese Land. But in 1333, the Kamakura shogunate was extinct. In 1338, the Muromachi shougunate was begane by Ashikaga Takauji (1305-1358). In 1573, the Muromachi shougunate was extinct by Oda Nobunaga. Oda Nobunaga was almost take over the Japan, but Akechi Mitsuhide, his servent, killed him so he can't take over the Japan. Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1537-1598), another Oda Nobunaga's servent, revenged Akechi Mitsuhide after he subjugacted a Southwestern Japan, and taked over Japan. But Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543-1616), another Oda Nobunaga's servent and first shogun of Edo shogunate, attacked Toyotomi Hideyoshi's child, Toyotomi Hideyori and taked over Japan. The Tokugawa Shoguns traded with China and Netherland. In 1867, the last Tokugawa Shogun, Tokugawa Yoshinobu did great government administration to Meiji Emperor, so Edo shogune was extinct.
